What will we do during the autumn retreat?

This autumn retreat takes place during the new moon just before the holiday season ramps up—a perfect time to quiet our systems and slow down our pace. I will guide you through a soothing movement practice, including a Feldenkrais® Awareness Through Movement® lesson and some gentle yoga, to oil your joints and open your breathing. During pauses in our practice I will offer time and support for personal reflection via writing or drawing. We will end in stillness.

Where is the movement retreat taking place?

We will gather in person in the peaceful Dharma Gate meditation center in South Seattle. There will be no devices in the room, and no live-streaming will be available for this retreat.

While at Dharma Gate, you might take a walk in the beautiful garden.

What do I need to know before attending the autumn movement retreat?

No experience is required in either the Feldenkrais Method or gentle yoga in order to attend the retreat. However, it is important for me to know if there is anything that might limit your movement. Please contact me to let me know if you have any conditions or injuries that I should keep in mind while instructing you.

Please wear comfortable clothing in removable layers. Bring a journal and writing implements of your choice. If you like to draw, bring your sketchbook. I always have paper, pens and colors for you, as well. Bring a firm blanket for spreading out on and a yoga mat for standing movement. There are many props at Dharma Gate, so we can help you with anything you might be missing.

I will have the space open by 9:45 for you to get settled. Please arrive early, and plan on taking your time leaving. Sometimes I need a few extra minutes to wind the practice down, and sometimes you might need to linger. Try to avoid planning an active day on the 19th. Allow yourself some mental and emotional spaciousness to integrate your time in the retreat. Never go directly to anything physically strenuous immediately after a Feldenkrais experience, as your nervous system will be unusually plastic, and you’ll need some time to familiarize with your new movement possibilities.

If you have any questions about your participation in the autumn movement retreat, please contact me. I am happy to talk with you.
